MICHAEL-THOMAS FOUMAI
COMPOSER
THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS
PROGRAM NOTE
In Japanese, hanakotoba (花言葉) translates to flower-language. It is a common tradition of affixing meaning to certain flowers. These set of short pieces for violin and piano are based on this language of flowers. Each movement’s title is based on physical appearance and strives to reproduce a short musical-fragrance of each flower.
